John Bryan
Feline

When I am writing poetry
I become
As removed
And wide eyed
As the cat.

Go hunting
In the dark
With a receptive
Vision.

Catch some
Feathered thought
That wasn't
Quite quick
Enough.

And play with it
For hours before
Completely
Killing it.

To gain
A quiet satisfaction
From my
Instinct
And survival.
